The detailed description of the development of the perineal musculature in the human embryo contained in this book allows us to trace the changes in this muscle group from the early stages of human development to the formation of individual muscles, and to establish the sequence of their separation from one another and the time of their differentiation from the sphincter cloacae, depending on the development of the surrounding organs. This study also provides an explanation for some variations in the perineal muscles that can be found in humans, such as the existence of an accessory bundle of the bulbocavernosus muscle, the sphincter vaginae muscle, and the transversus perinei subcutaneus muscle.
