Excerpt from The Call of to-Day: Sermons Preached in the First Methodist Episcopal Church, Montclair
We are trying to be thoughtful in this age. The religion that is to fit the demands of the age must be thoughtful.
It is well that one passion of the age is turned to sober, thoughtful consideration. The thinking of a people will govern their ambitions and achieve ments. Thought determines character. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. Thinking is funda mental. Actions are only completed thoughts. The final judgment of life is based upon the purposes that have been the motives of action.
Not in the clamor of the crowded street, Nor in the shouts and plaudits of the throng, But in ourselves are triumph and defeat.
