Synopsis

Excerpt from Quarterly Compendium of Medical Science: A Synopsis of the American and Foreign Literature of Medicine, Surgery, and Natural Sciences; January, 1886

Dr. C. S. Wood, of New York, said that in New York at least carbolic acid had been very largely used in the treatment of burns ever since Dr. Squibb had called attention to the matter. He thought it probable that the anesthesia in Dr. Govan'a case had been caused bv the oil, but that the comatose condition resulted from the inhalation of the vapor of naphtha arising from it.
