Le 1er juillet 1690, M. De Ramezay fut nommé gouverneur des trois-rivières en remplacement de M. De Varennes, décédé. Comme le fait remarquer quelque part M. Sulte, le mot gouverneur qui signifiait à cette époque peu de choses est devenu, dans notre bouche, un terme presque royal. Quoi qu'il en soit, en arrivant à trois-rivières, M. De Ramezay ne resta pas inactif. Aidé de M. De Beaucour, il fit mettre la place en état de défense. Et au mois de juin 1691, lorsque Frontenac visita trois-rivières, il ne put cacher sa satisfaction de tout ce qui avait été fait en aussi peu de temps avec les faibles moyens à sa disposition.
