A fourth area which is of particular importance is that the introduction of new or improved safety devices or equipment should not be admissable in court as evidence of an inherent defect in an earlier version of a product. Currently, in many states, safety improvements can be admitted as evidence against a manu facturer, creating a powerful incentive not to make such improvements in order to avoid the prospect of litigation.
