Excerpt from Organization Development for Economic Development in Latin America: Results of a Four-Year Action-Research Program
Early in 1967 the Ford Foundation granted funds to mit and the National Development Bank (nde) of a Latin American country to develop a collaborative program of technical assistance in development finance. A major goal of the project was to increase the effectiveness of a development finance program Operated by the ndb through state and regional development banks throughout the country. The program provided long term credit at low interest rates to small and medium size firms. (it shall be referred to as the snp program in the present paper.) As each project was approved, money was passed from the nde to the state and regional banks which in turn repassed it on to the borrow ing firm.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents research from an extensive four-year program using organizational development to promote economic growth in Latin America. The author points out that while the application of psychology to economic development is becoming more popular, such work is seldom done on a systemic level, which can limit both its scope and duration. To address this, the author collaborated with the National Development Bank of a Latin American country and provided training courses for professionals, implemented organization development activities, and assisted with management information systems. The author concludes that applied psychology can influence socio-economic development through systemic change efforts with development finance institutions. The book therefore has important implications for understanding the role of psychology in economic development.
