Princess Alice was one of Europe's loveliest princesses who spent her early married life in the turbulent political arena of Greece. Later she and her family were forced into exile and eventually her marriage broke down. Following a religious crisis, the Princess spent some years in a sanatorium in Switzerland. Vickers charts her extraordinary recovery, her return to Greece in the difficult years of World War II and how she turned her own experience into a way of helping others, often at risk to her own life. Princess Alice, mother of the Duke of Edinburgh, spent her final years in Britain and died at Buckingham Palace.
