The thesis of this book is that now that communism has collapsed the world over there is no alternative to free market capitalism and liberal democracy. There will be dictators and brutal regimes, but nobody will try to defend them. "The end of history" is therefore the end of ideological war.

About the Author
Francis Fukuyama's work includes The End of History and the Last Man, Trust, The Great Disruption, Our Posthuman Future, State-Building, America at the Crossroads, Falling Behind, and Political Order and Political Decay. He is a senior fellow at the Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law at Stanford University. He is a council member of the International Forum for Democratic Studies founded by the National Endowment for Democracy and was a member of the Political Science Department of the RAND Corporation.
