Before becoming a biographer Hesketh Pearson was himself a Shakespearean actor and later he became Secretary of The British Empire Shakespearean Society. AUTHBIO: Hesketh Pearson was an actor before becoming a biographer. His first book, Modern Men and Manners, was published in 1921 and contained portraits of the theatre personalities of the time. His many subjects have included Gilbert and Sullivan, George Bernard Shaw, Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Dickens and Whistler. Hesketh Pearson was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
