9780241118986: How to be a Cartoonist

Synopsis

The first half of this book deals with the basic techniques - what materials do you use? What size do you draw? And how you scale up or down to fit a newspaper column? How do you caricature or keep a likeness in a strip cartoon? And what about ideas? Where do they come from? How do you transfer them to paper? And how do you persuade an editor to buy your first masterpiece? The second half of the book picks the brains of twenty of our leading cartoonists, including Reg Smythe, Calman, Larry, Frank Dickens, Posy Simmonds. They explain how they work, how they cope with deadlines and how year after year, they keep making us laugh.
