Synopsis
With an Index. b/w illustrations and colour plates. Edited, selected and tranlsated by Lucy Norton. 'M le Duc de Saint-Simon lived at the Court of Versailles during the latter period of the immensely long reign of Louis XIV and during the Regency that followed. His famous Memoirs are one of the masterpieces of world literature. It is a commentary in vivid, racy, impatient language, with no holds barred, unafraid, caustic, often outraged, sometimes ribabld, and, above all, as truthful as Saint-Simon could make it - the politics, plots, gossip, love-affairs, and characters of the King, the Royal Family and the courtiers are all here.' Lucy Norton received an OBE for her abridgement in English of Duc de Saint-Simon's memoirs. She has also translated the Journal of Eugene Delacroix.
