This is the true first edition published by André Deutsch in 1990, featuring the original vibrant blue pictorial boards with the classic cover illustration of Postman Pat and Mrs. Goggins enjoying tea and cakes. The book is bright, crisp, and appears almost unread?pages are clean and unmarked with no inscriptions, stickers, or library markings. Binding is tight and square; corners and edges are sharp with no bumping or rubbing. A truly collector-grade example that looks as fresh as the day it left the printer. Story Summary: After a week of being offered all sorts of delicious treats by the friendly people on his rounds (cakes from Granny Dryden, sweets from the schoolchildren, pancakes from the Reverend, biscuits from Dorothy, and more), Postman Pat finds he can no longer button up his Sunday suit. A gentle, humorous tale about healthy eating and exercise, perfect for early readers. Includes delightful full-colour illustrations on every spread. Author - John Cunliffe (1933-2018): John Arthur Cunliffe was a beloved English children's author, librarian, and television presenter best known as the creator of the iconic Postman Pat series. Born in Colne, Lancashire, he drew inspiration from his experiences working on a mobile library in rural Northumberland and the Lake District. The gentle, community-focused world of Greendale was a deliberate contrast to the bullying he faced as a child. Cunliffe wrote the original Postman Pat TV scripts (first broadcast 1981) and numerous spin-off books. He also created other popular series, such as Rosie and Jim. His warm, reassuring storytelling has delighted generations of children worldwide. Illustrator - Jane Hickson: Jane Hickson provided the lively, colourful illustrations for this and many other Postman Pat books, perfectly capturing the charm of the stop-motion TV series. Her artwork brings the characters to life with expressive faces and detailed village scenes that young readers adore. (Note: Some sources reference related work by Joan Hickson in Postman Pat comics/strips, but Jane Hickson is credited here for the book illustrations.) Original TV Designs by Ivor Wood (1932-2004): Ivor Wood was a legendary British animator and the driving force behind the original Postman Pat television series (produced by Woodland Animations). He designed the iconic characters and directed the stop-motion animation that defined the gentle, nostalgic style of the show. His work on Postman Pat, alongside Cunliffe, made it a cornerstone of British children's television. Why Collect This Edition? This André Deutsch hardcover is the original high-quality printing of the title?subsequent reprints by Scholastic and others often used softer covers or altered formats. It remains a nostalgic favourite for fans of the classic 1980s/90s Postman Pat era, ideal for collectors, parents introducing the stories to a new generation, or completists of the Beginners series. Condition Notes Boards: Like New, vivid colours, no fading or marks. Spine: Pristine, no creasing or wear. Pages: Bright, clean, no foxing, tears, or annotations. Overall: Exceptional copy.
