Review
Sub-titled The Very Best of Northern Architecture, this is Grundy's attempt to redress what he sees as a southern conspiracy to hide or ignore the architectural delights of the north of England: from castles and cathedrals to ruined abbeys; from Blackpool tower to Salts Mill; and from workers' back-to-backs to a selection of high street chip shops. He never fails to convey his enthusiasm not just for the buildings in question, but for their contexts and histories - and does so in an engaging manner which combines humour with learning lightly worn. He's an ex-teacher turned TV and radio presenter with his own architecture series on Tyne-Tees Television for the past seven years. A real pleasure either to dip into or read right through.
About the Author
John Grundy is an English teacher who has also written and presented various architectural programmes for both radio and television. He is the presenter of Grundy's Wonders.
