This edition will be a tremendously helpful tool for all intellectual historians in investigating the historical influence of Thomas Reid. This edition of the Inquiry is a model of careful scholarship. A crack editing job.
Derek R. Brookes is the editor of Thomas Reid's An Inquiry into the Human Mind on the Principles of Common Sense (Edinburgh University Press, 1997). He has a PhD in philosophy from the Australian National University. Knud Haakonssen was Professor of History at the University of Sussex and is now a member of the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study in Uppsala.
