The antecedent is 'if the fourth commandment is obligatory '; the consequent is 'we are bound, &c.'; it is the consequent which is affirmed, so that the argument involves the Fallacy of Affirming the Consequent. It may be put categorically as follows: Those on whom the fourth commandment is obligatory are bound, &c.; we are bound, &c.; therefore, we are among those on whom the fourth commandment is obligatory. The fallacy is evidently that of Undistributed Middle, the pseudo-mood being A A A in the second figure. 5.
