Octavo (8" x 5 1/4") bound in original publisher's green boards with gilt lettering to spine in pictorial dust jacket. (APG Wodehouse: 110a) First edition. Monty Bodkin's year in Hollywood is completed and he has returned to London, leaving his secretary Sandy Miller heartbroken, her love unmentioned, unrequited. Monty's desires lie elsewhere - with the English hockey international Gertrude Butterwick to be precise. Butterwick pere is horrified at Monty's return, Ivor Llewellyn breathes a huge sigh of relief, and the Drones Club pricks up its ears. Attentive students of the Wodehouse canon will recall that Mr Butterwick made it a condition of Monty's betrothal to Gertrude that Monty would hold down a job for a year, which more or less sank any chance of the liaison coming to a fruition; but Monty succeeded in blackmailing Mr Llewellyn into giving him a job. Now, with the conditions plainly satisfied, Monty confronts Mr Butterwick to claim the hand of Gertrude. His return to London should, he feels, be in the style of a Roman triumph. The British version was released the same year as the US book. Signed in my presence by the Author on the Title Page. Near Fine/Near Fine. Dust Jacket shows light edge wear, very small chips at the top and bottom of the spine, not price clipped (ã2.00), now protected in a Brodart protective cover. The Text is Clean, with no marks, top edge is sprayed green. Binding square but shows evidence of having been read. The boards have very light wear and a tiny bump on the lower front. Gilt lettering on the spine is bright, with no wear. Laid in is a 2 by 3 ý card signed by the author. The verso has a photo of the author with Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) on the movie set of the first Rambo film. This is the author's first novel which was the basis of the 1982 Rambo film starring Sylvester Stallone as Vietnam veteran John Rambo Signed, First British Edition, First Printing.
