Synopsis
This practical manual for teaching acting is really a drama course or two in a book, and can be used by veteran teachers, new teachers, actors from junior high through college, and little theater groups.
Written by an award-winning high school drama teacher with over twenty-five years of experience, it contains both an introductory course and an advanced course, in a lesson-by-lesson format, as well as sections on scene study and relaxation/warm-up exercises which are basic to both. These separate courses are sequential and cumulative but complement each other and are adaptable to any group.
Each lesson - twenty-nine in the beginning course, and forty in the advanced - includes lists of materials needed, step-by-step procedures, and outlines of the objectives, all tempered with the practical advice of a wise and compassionate teacher. Sample charts, diagrams, forms, and worksheets are here, too. Theater games found in the introductory course may be used as warm-ups, or, in fact, entire classes, in either of the two courses.
But apart from teaching acting techniques; blocking; stage areas; creating characters; improvisation; and all the skills of the stage, Mr. Schlusberg never loses sight of the fact that theater is meant to encourage growth. With subtlety and deftness he shows how acting training can increase awareness of character, environment, senses, and emotions in developing more fulfilled human beings.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition (Archon Books= 'First published year' ). Once listed this will be the Only signed copy for sale on the Internet. The signed inscription is on the first front end paper (see photo). The book is in excellent shape. The covers are very clean and have minimal wear, two light creases below the rear top corner. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages and nicely tight covers. The pages are very clean and bright. I don't see any soiling. Some of the pages in the middle of the book have a mild impression below their top corner, not enough to call a crease. There are no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. There's a nick to the outer edge of a handful of pages, quite minor. There are no tears. There are no markings. No attachments. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. There are a number of b & w illustrations, all in excellent shape. The dust jacket is in excellent shape, very clean, no tears. The flaps are very clean as well. The rear flap has a thin vertical crease from its top to bottom. The jacket is not priced or clipped. I've always had it in a fitted protective cover.
