He has an appreciation of all the ingredients of Australian flora and fauna and of theit relationships with sod, climate and other elements Birds provide an excellent indication of the state of our environment, Graham loves and bas made a special study of them in the past 40 years, I have been with him in the bush on many occasions in many parts of Australia and I know no-one who surpasses his expertise in the field. The great majority of birds in this guide he has seen and described himself, and his interpretation of their calls was an initiative he undertook early in his career. All of us who are interested in birds need to use binoculars, but Graham refined this use by describing what he was looking at directly to a tape recorder he was carrying at the same time.
