About the Authors
Carolyn Hughes is professor of special education at Vanderbilt University. Her research focus is on transition from school to adult life, particularly for at-risk students from high poverty backgrounds. She is a coauthor of the Supports Intensity Scale (American Association on Mental Retardation, 2004), The Transition Handbook: Strategies High School Teachers Use That Work (Paul H. Brookes, 2000), and Teaching Self-Determination to Students with Disabilities (Paul H. Brookes, 1998).
Erik W. Carter is an assistant professor of special education in the Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. His research addresses peer relationships, access to the general curriculum, and secondary transition services. He is a coauthor of The Transition Handbook: Strategies High School Teachers Use That Work (Paul H. Brookes, 2000).
