Thanks to the input from numerous supervisors representing a wide variety of settings, theoretical models and backgrounds, this has become the definitive text on clinical supervision from a systemic perspective. It contains a wealth of material for beginning and experienced supervisors, regardless of theoretical persuasion. It is suitable as a text on MFT supervision or for a prominent place on the bookshelf of practicing supervisors.

A study of marriage and family therapy supervision, this book addresses areas such as context, philosophy, relationships, pragmatics and supervisory training. The major models of MFT supervision, from psychoanalytic to postmodernism approaches, are presented. Methods of using a wide range of intervention strategies are suggested, including the use of genograms, reflecting teams in case presentation, and taped and live supervision. The book targets the objectives of supervisory training established by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. An accompanying resource guide contains practical tips, access to supervision resources and reproducible forms which can be adapted for the use of any supervisor's practice.
Thomas C. Todd, Ph.D., Coordinator of the MFT Program at the Adler School of Professional Psychology, is former chairperson of the Commission of Supervision of the AAMFT and co-author of The Family Therapy of Drug Abuse and Addiction and Family Therapy Approaches with Adolescent Substance Abusers. She is Editor of the Journal of Systemic Therapy where she edited a special issue on postmodern supervision. She has written extensively on supervision in books and journals.
