Synopsis
Designed for introductory courses in production and operations management, this text is structured around the theme of strategy and tactics. As a result of this focus, the text places the emphasis on world class manufacturing, competitive advantage and strategy and domestic and international real-world applications. New features in this second edition include a discussion of the differences and similarities between manufacturing and service operations, with the addition of more service applications; location analysis, including the centre of gravity method; POM strategy and productivity; and updated coverage of flexible manufacturing, master production planning, just-in-time, MRP, computer integrated manufacturing, Taguchi Methods and expert systems. Two videos accompany this edition, one consisting of a set of plant tours, the other from the Annenberg/COMAP series "For All Practical Purposes" including an overview of management science techniques and segments on CPM, short term scheduling and linear programming. End-of-chapter computer problems are available on a separate data disk and a computerized test bank is provided.
