This invaluable guide clearly outlines the necessary decisions and issues to consider before employing objects for software development projects. It is filled with practical advice distilled from the authors' extensive experience in the creation and use of object technology: advice covering all aspects of programming languages, development tools, and methods for analysis and design. Recognizing differences in culture and in long- and short-term goals among organizations, the authors observe that no single prescription will work everywhere. To be sure, the authors can-and do-make generally applicable recommendations, and tie these recommendations to the conditions under which they have seen success and failure. But their principal aim is to create a structure that will enable readers to develop their own coherent-and successful-management plans.

Mr. Rubin has over 10 years' experience consulting with and managing software development projects that have successfully applied object-oriented technology.
This book is written to teach technical managers how to be successful in the use of object-oriented technology. It contains the author's advice, distilled form 20 years of direct experience in the creation and use of the technology and of all aspects of programming languages, development tools and methods for analysis and design. Goldberg and Rubin describe how to construct a prescription for what an organization including its managers, developers, support teams and customers---should do for success in using object-oriented technology, examining the decisions that must be made, the issues affecting the decision-making process, and providing examples derived from project case studies.
