9780199270231: Understanding the Law

Synopsis

Understanding the Law is an engaging, accessible introduction to law. This third edition has been completely revised and updated to take into account recent developments. It provides a wealth of fascinating details about the legal system and the many people who participate in it, from judges to MPs and police officers. The book describes how laws are made, and how cases are tried. It includes chapters on the principles involved in the administration of justice, the development of common law, the constitution, legal professions, and courts. Interesting historical and contemporary cases bring the book to life, covering issues such as discrimination, human rights, and drugs, and explaining how the law affects young people today. Understanding the Law is ideal reading for anyone who is considering a career in the law, preparing for university, or embarking on a law course at school or college.
