Born Belfast 1939, BSc in Physics and Mathematics at Queens University Belfast 1962, graduate student and assistant in the Meteorology Department of Imperial College London 1962-1969.
PhD in Meteorology at London University 1966, Physics teacher at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution 1969 - 1971, Lecturer in Meteorology, Climatology and Physical Oceanography in the Department of Environmental Science, University of Lancaster 1971 - 2000, including a sabbatical at the Meteorology Department.
Pennsylvania State University 1978 - 1979. Fellow of The Royal Meteorological Society since 1966.
