About the Author


Dr. S. Max Walters was Curator of Botany, Lecturer in Botany, and for ten years Director of the University Botanic Garden in Cambridge up until his retirement. He is the author of numerous books on plants and flowers, most notably theAtlas of the British Flora (with F. H. Perring) and as a co-editor of Flora Europea. John White studied art at Harrow College of Art before taking up forestry as a career, becoming curator and botanist at Westonbirt Arboretum in 1975. He was appointed Forestry Commission Research Dendrologist in 1987, and now works as a freelance illustrator, author, and consultant. Jill White is closely associated with dendrological consultancy work, site surveys, photographic assignments, and writing. She is especially interested in the interactions between people and trees and the pragmatic education of young children in natural sciences.
