Synopsis
A biography which looks at the life of the German poet Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926). Rilke was a lyric poet who, when he travelled to Russia, met Tolstoy and was deeply influenced by Russian pietism. His work is credited with extending the range of expression and sublety of German.

About the Author
Dr Prater was Senior Lecturer in German at the University of Kent (1970-3) and then became a translator and minute-writer at CERN in Geneva, where he still lives
