Lediglich der Schutzumschlag ist sehr leicht berieben, sonst ein sehr gutes Exemplar ohne Anstreichungen / Only the dust jacket is very slightly rubbed, otherwise a very good copy without annotations. - In the quest for the original Homeric text, Bolling's strategy was to begin, not with an 'Ur-text' as some earlier scholars had attempted, but with the poems as they appear at the beginning of our tradition, and to 'remove the accretions stratum by stratum, as in the excavation of a buried temple'. Once the texts in Aristarchus' edition are recovered as exactly as possible, with interpolations (limited to variants of a line or more in length) identified and listed, the more difficultand probably impossibletask of bridging the gap between Aristarchus and Homer can at least be attempted.
