This volume provides a detailed account of the Anglo-Saxon and other associated coins in the collection of Uppsala University, which had a leading role in the use of numismatics in historical research and teaching in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
The 741 coins catalogued and illustrated here derive mostly from Swedish hoards of the 18th and 19th centuries. As well as the late Anglo-Saxon coins, there are also significant groups of Hiberno-Norse and Scandinavian imitations and Norman coins.
The introduction describes the history of the collection from its origins, and its important role in historical research and teaching in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
