Synopsis
This is an account of life in Java in the 1920s and 1930s. The author, disillusioned by the guide books of her age, set out to capture the spirit of the island with which she had fallen in love. The result is a medley of impressions about life in Java 60 years ago, written in the tradition of the traveller with the enquiring mind.
