Synopsis
Examines India's nuclear position in the context of its domestic politics and challenges to its interests and values which have emerged in its regional and international environment. It points to the militarization of Indian nuclear and space science and argues that external pressures stimulated Indian nationalism and led to a dramatic change in Indian political and social thought concerning strategic affairs. The Indian approach, opines the author, is to specify Indian strategic priorities and agenda, demonstrate political will by military and political action, be willing to bear and inflict costs on rivals and engage the world through power politics rather than disarmament talks.
