About the Author

Healey Willan was a Anglo-Canadian organist and composer. He was born in Balham, London and emigrated to Canada in 1913 to become the head of the theory department at the Canadian Conservatory of Music (now the Royal Conservatory of Music) in Toronto. In addition, he took the post of organist and choirmaster at Saint Paul's Church, later working at St. Mary Magdalene in Toronto until his death in 1968.
In 1956 he received the Lambeth Doctorate from the Archbishop of Canterbury, and became one of the first members of the Order of Canada in 1967.
