Synopsis
This rhetoric/reader for first year composition courses moves from an overview of the writing process to individual chapters on the rhetorical modes. The readings come from a variety of sources--student papers, newspapers, magazines, and excerpts from books - all are brief, averaging 3 or 4 pages. Numerous case studies of the writing process include several student essays shown in multiple drafts. The process of revising a newspaper article and a poem is illustrated, establishing a link between student writing and professional writing.
