In simple quatrains, this colourful, lively book introduces basic shapes - square, circle, triangle, rectangle, oval, diamond - and shows some of the familiar forms they take in the world around us. The final spread is a collage of all the different scenes from the book, encouraging children to spot as many different shapes as they can. Dayle Anne Dodds has written a number of children's books. She was working in a kindergarten class when she developed the idea for "The Shape Of Things". Julie Lacome is well known for her colourful collage illustrations. Already to her credit on the Walker list are "Sing a Song of Sixpence"; "A Was Once an Apple Pie"; "Walking Through the Jungle"; "I'm a Jolly Farmer" (1994), the novelty books "Funny Business" and "Hocus Pocus, and four titles by Pam Ayres, "Guess What?"; "Guess Where?"; "Guess Who?" and "Guess Why?".
