Students Guide to Colleges was started by Jordan Goldman and Colleen Buyers when they were 18 year old college freshman. Goldman and Buyers, from their dorm rooms, created a website and an online survey covering every aspect of college life (including questions only true insiders would think to ask, like: What wouldn t a prospective student see on a campus tour? What goes on in the dorms at 3am on a Wednesday night, and how does that differ from school to school?)
In a few months, more than 30,000 students, all across America, logged on to their website. Students Guide quickly became a virtual grassroots movement, spurred on by the power of the internet, the power of student networks, and students desires to tell the truth about their schools, both the good and the bad. Friends told friends about Students Guide. News of the survey spread from school to school. Students weren t paid to give Students Guide in-depth reports freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors logged on because they wanted to get out the truth and let people know what their schools were really like. In the end, Students Guide to Colleges was completely student-created, written and edited no one involved was any older than 21.
