Synopsis
Rory and Granda have looked after one another ever since Rory's dad walked out. These days it's Rory who has to look after the old man, but both of them dread being split up - the thought of the old folks' home and the children's home is awful. But that's exactly what happens when Granda sets fire to the flat, and Rory is galvanised into springing Granda and setting out on the run. It's a great adventure and Granda's in his element reliving old black and white war films. But where are they going, and where can they hide when their faces are plastered all over the newspapers and TV? Unexpected friends and surprise betrayals lurk round every corner.
Their only chance of staying together is to track down the man who walked out on them - and, after all this time, what chance is that?

About the Author
Catherine MacPhail won the Scottish Children's Book Award in 1999 with Fighting Back. She won the Sheffield Shorter Novel Award in 2003 for Tribes. Cathy has also written for radio and has had two situation comedy series broadcast on Radio 2. She lives in Greenock with her family.
