About the Author

MARCUS AURELIUS ANTONINUS was born in 121 A.D., in the reign of the emperor Hadrian. He became Roman Emperor, and joined the legions in 167, to fight against the barbarians on the Danube. He then stayed in this region, leading a somewhat melancholy life, and wrote several series of reflections. He died of an infectious disease on camp in 180 A.D.
