About the Author

L.P Hartley's books include NIGHT FEARS, THE SHRIMP AND THE ANEMONE, THE SIXTH HEAVEN, EUSTACE AND HILDA (which won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize), THE BOAT, THE HIRELING, THE NOVELISTS' RESPONSIBILITY (a collection of critical essays), MY SISTER'S KEEPER, MRS CARTERET RECEIVES and THE HARNESS ROOM. THE GO-BETWEEN was awarded the Heinemann Foundation Prize of the Royal Society of Literature and was later made into an internationally successful film. He was awarded the CBE in 1956.
