Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), Nobel Laureate, is the most eminent modern Indian writer to have appeared on the world literary scene. Sukanta Chaudhuri is Professor of English at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Sankha Ghosh was formerly Professor of Bengali at Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
