Synopsis
Task analysis (TA) is one of the major tools available for the design and evaluation of computer systems. This book provides an up-to-date coverage of the latest developments in this fast-growing area of computer science. Covering both the theoretical issues and practical techniques that can be used in task observation, and providing clarification of the terminology, the book emphasizes TA's use in industrial and commercial information technology applications. Hierarchical Task Analysis (HTA) is introduced and its application to the determination of the information needs of operators discussed in detail. Coverage is also given to TAG (Task-Action Grammar), TAKD (Task Analysis for Knowledge Descriptions) and TKS (Task Knowledge Structures). There is a chapter on the use of task analysis and Jackson System Design as a suitable means of ensuring that compatibility exists between the task specification and the system specification.
