Synopsis
This book contains a well edited and useful blend of keynote, review and state-of the-art papers by international authorities reflecting the current status and likely future advances of the surface engineering field. Divided into three parts, the first section is mainly concerned with developments in surface engineering processes and process technology. the second part spans the coatings spectrum from ceramics, through inorganic and conversion coatings, to organic coatings. The science and design of coatings systems are emphasized rather than technology. The last part addresses the performance of coatings and surface treatments, in particular the inhibition of high temperature corrosion, the corrosion performance of coatings at ambient temperature and wear and mechanical behaviour of coatings. Although this volume is based on the second International Conference on Advance Coatings and Surface Treatment for Corrosion and Wear Resistance held by Newcastle-upon-Tyne Polytechnic in 1988, it also contains additonal material to complement the information delivered at the conference.
