There are few aspects of the physical environment that influence our daily lives more than the phenomena we collectively call weather. Newspapers, magazines, and television stations regularly report a wide range of weather events as major news stories―an obvious reflection of people's fascination with the atmosphere. Humanity must also address important environmental problems related to the atmosphere. A basic meteorology course provides a foundation to satisfy our fundamental human curiosity about weather, and to understand the many environmental problems related to the atmosphere.
