Synopsis

While much has been written on public policy theory, this collection of readings is an attempt to survey the literature and provide an overview and critique of the many theories, models, and concepts of public policy. This text develops a set of criteria by which the reader can assess the utility of various theories of public policy. This will enable students to learn how to critique and apply theories in a constructive and useful manner. The text is intended for students on courses on public policy, public policy-making, and administrative decision making in departments of political science or public administration.

From the Back Cover

This book exposes students to a wide variety of real theories and concepts of public policy. It begins by providing students with the criteria for evaluating theory. The goal is to help them study theory without intimidation, so they will ultimately discover that theory, even social science theory, can serve as a guide rather than an impediment to reasoned inquiry.
