Synopsis
This book provides a description of an original attempt to design an improved apparatus for the measurement of the surface area of powders. Written primarily for those with limited experience in the field of instrument design and analysis, the author provides a methodological description of gas permeametry and instrument design. After a brief discussion of the principles and materials associated with the method, the book moves on to look at the relationship between gas flow rate and surface area, air permeability techniques, the various options which are available in instrumentation in surface area evaluation, and provides a description of an improved gas apparatus. Experimental results obtained via the new electronic permeameter (designed to measure gas flow rate and pressure drops at sub-zero pressures), and other available surface area measuring techniques are comprehensively covered enabling the reader to make the best choice from the various methods available.
The book culminates with a more detailed coverage of the general concept of powder characterization and compaction, and also looks at fine particles in the plastic industrial process (in particular their instrumentation and maintenance). Finally the author highlights the concept of dust explosion and some of the attendant health hazards."synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
