Based on detailed studies of selected regions of individual planets, this book brings together information on the most recently acquired data. The book includes the author's own research volcanism on Mars, and a review of recent conference papers from the USA and USSR. After a survey of theoretical considerations and terrestrial analog studies, the volcanic features of individual planets are described and discussed in detail. Employing a comparative approach, the author uses the characteristic volcanic features of specific planets to illustrate a particular kind of volcanism, making reasoned deductions on what this means in terms of physical processes and planetary development.
