This book reflects the importance of non-negative matrices in economics, control theory, numerical analysis, Markov Chains and other mathematical disciplines which increasingly employ the theory. The background is established in an introductory survey including some aspects of matrix theory and its applications and also presents various other topics of linear algebra which are relevant to the subject. Most of the terms and concepts are illustrated by examples. Some aspects of the theory of graphs are covered, as are Unitary and Hermitian matrices and the properties of positive definite matrices discussed. The book also provides direct applications of the results proved in the sections on non-negative matrices, including stochastic, genetic and economic models.
