The writing style is especially accessible to the average undergraduate, it seems to me. The exercises at the end of each chapter are also especially helpful, and I very much liked the case study format the featured three hypothetical students.

The fourth edition of AN INTRODUCTION TO THE BIBLE is now available. It includes new material on the controversial Jesus Seminar, updates on Biblical archaeology, more discussion of new methods of study of the Bible, discussion of the Bible and the environmental crisis, and more. Teachers and students using the book have found it readable, balanced, and up-to-date. In the new edition there are questions for discussion of the contemporary relevance of the Bible linked to particular Biblical readings. It has been used in college classes, church study groups, and by individual readers interested in serious study of the Bible.
