Synopsis

This book is for engineers and technologists involved in the selection and specification of instrumentation and control equipment in the process industries. It provides a single volume review of current measurement practice and the type of instrument available, with an explanation of important principles and references for further reading. The individual chapters are written by users and suppliers of instruments, and have been developed from course notes for a continuing education course on "Instrumentation, Measurement and Control" conducted annually in the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Leeds. The emphasis in each chapter is on current instrumentation practice and users' experience, rather than on theoretical detail. The nature of modern computer control is discussed with particular emphasis on interfacing with instruments. The book is not a theoretical treatise, nor simply a text of lectures, but a practical introduction and reference source to the subject.
