If you're seeking to master business analytics, case studies offer invaluable help: they expose you to the entire decision-making process, helping you practice an active role in both performing analysis and using its output to recommend optimal decisions. Now, drawing on his extensive teaching and consulting experience, Prof. Matthew Drake has created the ideal new casebook for all analytics students and practitioners.

Drake, author of the widely-praised Applied Business Analytics Casebook, now presents a collection of up-to-date cases that are longer and more detailed than those typically presented in undergraduate texts, but concise and focused enough to be taught in a single classroom session. Organized by analytical technique, Advances in Business, Operations, and Product Analytics covers:

  • Descriptive analytics:
descriptive statistics, sampling/inferential statistics, statistical quality control, and probability
  • Predictive analytics:
  • forecasting, demand managing, data and text mining
  • Prescriptive analytics:
  • optimization-based modeling, simulation-based modeling, decision analysis, and multi-criteria decision making
  • Industry-specific analytics:
  • HR and managerial analytics, financial analytics, and healthcare/life sciences

In addition to practitioners, this casebook will be especially valuable to students and faculty in undergraduate and masters' courses that cover topics in business analytics, and courses applying analytics to specific industries such as healthcare, or specific business functions such as marketing.

    From the Back Cover:
The Indispensable Business Analytics Casebook: A Bird’s-Eye View of All Phases of the Analytics Process
    • New analytics cases covering a wide spectrum of business applications and functions
    • Covers descriptive, predictive, prescriptive, and industry-specific techniques
    • Helps you practice both performing analytics and using analytical outputs
    • Ideal for business professionals, introductory-level graduate students, and advanced undergraduates

To improve decision making through analytics, analysts and managers need meaningful hands-on experience with performing analysis and transforming its outputs into action. This book’s case studies will help you do both, so you can gain more value from analytics sooner, in more applications and environments.
Advances in Business, Operations, and Product Analytics presents 17 up-to-date case studies designed to be fully accessible to advanced undergraduates, introductory graduate students, and practitioners.
Matthew Drake’s cases illuminate applications ranging from operations to marketing, product management to manufacturing. They present descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive techniques and introduce industry-specific approaches for service businesses, the energy industry, healthcare/life sciences, finance, and the public sector. Two focus specifically on linkages between analytics and ethical decision making.
Each detailed case promotes robust discussion about the practical realities of the analytics process, helping you avoid pitfalls and apply these techniques far more successfully.
Drawing on his extensive teaching and consulting experience, Matthew Drake has created the ideal new casebook for all business analytics students and practitioners. These new case studies expose you to the entire decision-making process, helping you actively practice both performing analysis and using its output to make recommendations.
Advances in Business, Operations, and Product Analytics presents 17 new cases designed to be broadly accessible for advanced undergraduates, introductory-level graduate students, and practitioners. These well-organized cases cover descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive methods, as well as industry-specific analytics for HR, management, finance, healthcare, and public administration. Several are concise enough to be covered in one 30-minute classroom discussion; others are ideal for lengthier out-of-class assignments.
In addition to practitioners, this casebook will be especially valuable to advanced undergraduate and graduate students of business analytics and to anyone studying the use of analytics in specific industries or business functions.
