A cheat. Entries are not sorted by subject; the products section (117 pp.) gives no addresses or phone numbers, making it necessary to search for them in the vendors section (116 pp.). The quarter-page of text on Microsoft reads: "One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052, 206-882-8080. Famous pioneer company that wants to dominate the world of personal computer software." The product entries are a little more extensive, but the entire contents would nicely fit a 50-page pamphlet. And the pages are not yellow. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.

This guide covers software products and vendors active in the client/server marketplace and includes over 200 products and 250 vendors. To help you search for the item of interest, software products are grouped in categories such as: frontend tools, groupware, workflow, remote access, application development, middleware, conferencing software and componentware. Products are ordered alphabetically by name within each category. With each, the company name, product description, price and platform(s) are listed, and, when available, a product "rating" and pros and cons of the product are provided too. The company Yellow Pages describes the company background and provides contact information, including, when possible, a contact person's name. The author provides an introduction giving the reader a sense of direction of the industry, as well as a glossary of terms and acronyms to help them navigate this guide.
