This text seeks to provide students with a clear picture of how real-world systems operate, covering the fundamentals of linear continuous data and digital control systems analysis and design. The sixth edition has been redesigned to enhance student comprehension and expands its coverage of conventional time-domain and frequency-domain analysis and design methods. Kuo offers a new method to the Nyquist stability criterion that requires only one simple plot for a wide class of transfer functions and broadens his treatment of reduced-order approximation of high-order systems; PID controller design, lead-lag and pole-zero cancellation control; stability analysis; and bridged-T controller design. Classical state variable methods are discussed and disturbance rejection and design with sensitivity considerations are dealt with. An examination of robust control design at the entry level is also included. Both the accompanying software disks and software manual have been revised and expanded. Both are integrated within the text and include the following utility programs - partial-fraction expansion; matrix multiplications; polynomial root solving; state variable analysis; time response of continuous data systems; root locus program; frequency response analysis; computer-aided frequency domain design; sampled data control systems analysis and design; time response of digital control systems; and computer drill problems on selected subjects.

An introductory text on control systems, based on the senior-level control-system course taught by the author at the U. of Illinois at Urbana for over 30 years. This edition is expanded to a total of 11 chapters and three appendices. Great emphasis is placed on the design of control systems and computer solutions. Many systems, such as the sun-seek
